How to search (google)

Jul 29, 2010 9:01AM PDT

I don't really consider myself to be a newbie, but I have run into the problem of not knowing how to search for something that I can't figure out how to say in just a few words. For instance, I would like to ask the following question: Is there any way to meet the Windows 7 requirement of Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory with a graphics card that will work in a PCI slot (not a PCI experess slot)? I know I can ask that question on various forum sites but is there anyway to google something like that? Also, if anyone has an answer to that question, I would appreciate your comments.
Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (build 2600)

Not much the expert but, what I do is trim

to the basics and add filters as I get his. Starting with "PCI video card for directx =9" I get

this

which looks promising.

Then I add "WDDM" and now I get

this

which sort of tells me I'm probably dead in the water with this request. Just keep it simple to a few key words and add others to narrow down your search. Good luck.

You said .........

"Is there any way to meet the Windows 7 requirement of Support for DirectX 9 graphics with WDDM and 128 MB of graphics memory with a graphics card that will work in a PCI slot (not a PCI experess slot)?"

And the answer is:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007709%20600007853&IsNodeId=1&name=PCI

(The link provided is for reference only, no endorsement is being made by it)

All these card run in PCI slots.

Further search the list provided for the memory requirements you seek. Using the "advanced search" tab.

Now what I need to know is what is WDDM? I am unfamiliar with this. Is it a graphics card specification.

Are you running a 64 bit OS?

....................................

To find these I needed to know what the qualifiers were/are. It was the PCI slot. Cards that will fit in this sort of slot will mostly work, maybe. (WDDM?) Guided search was needed, see it there on the right on the link provided?

Windows 7 runs DirectX 10 but it will also run DirectX 9

For addition information on searching (I would recommend):

You can subscribe to Wendy's blog, I do. I'll never know enough about searching the web so I keep the information coming about, "search". Happy

Good luck

I forgot about this message still being out there. I was just going by what Microsoft says is needed for Windows 7
?If you want to run Windows 7 on your PC, here's what it takes:
1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor.
1 gigabyte (GB) RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit).
16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver.?
I was planning on getting a new power source but was hoping to avoid having to get a new motherboard because my current motherboard does not have PCI express slots only PCI slots. It is my under standing that Nvidia grafics card must be above 6200 (mine is 5800) for this to work. What I am really needing to know is if any of these higher level graphic cards will work in a regular PCI slot.

You may have too

install a new power supply for any new graphics card you install. See the specifications on the cards you select for notes about this.
