how to resume an aborted installation?

Jan 21, 2015 11:11PM PST

I accidentally aborted a software installation. When I tried to reinstall it, it seems it can detect an existing version in the system and resists to do a fresh installation, which prevents me from using the software. I tried to remove any traces as far as I know, like on hard disk and registry file by searching relevant keywords, but with no success. Can any one help me out on how to resolve this issue? Thanks!

This varies with the title.

Since there is no title given, try system restore to just before this attempt.

can you specify what is the title you mentioned?

Can you explain a bit more on what system restoration will do? Thanks,

Sorry no. Let's let Microsoft do that. Link follows.

Remember this is a built in, first recourse, safe for most systems procedure. Microsoft assumes folk learn about the Windows OS. So here it is:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/system-restore-faq#1TC=windows-7

Now this is where some don't read the fine print. It writes "System Restore uses restore points to return your system files and settings to an earlier point in time without affecting personal files."

I've lost count of folk that don't backup their stuff but outside of malware/infected machines I've yet to find this native feature of Windows to cause problems.
