Restoring the sound icon...
by John.Wilkinson / June 7, 2007 3:16 PM PDT

Just right-click the Taskbar, select Properties, select the Notification Area tab, and check the box next to Sound before clicking OK.

Also keep in mind it may just be hidden due to a lack of the arrow to the left of the Notification Area to expand it and show all icons present.

Hope this helps,

Restore Windows Vista Sound Icon

I could not find a "sound" option, if I follow your instructions.

this icon just "disappeared" today. I had it yesterday.

I think this is a virus or worm issue.

What else can I do to restore the sound icon?

Stop! This is the place

Well, thank you John. I've been trying for over an hour to restore the sound icon as well as the power status icon. I've been to Microsoft a half dozen times and Mr. Fix-It visited 3 times, in and out of the Control Panel so many times I lost count, and on and on. All to no avail. None of them worked for me and I am adept at following instructions. Your simple cure worked first time out! Can't thank you enough.
