How to reset password on router so I can do port forwarding.

Nov 29, 2004 7:39AM PST

I'm trying to do port-forwarding on my system, but when I go to my IP address, it asks me to sign-in, and it shows my e-mail as the sign-in name, but my only 2 passwords don't work.

How do I reset it to allow me to reset my password?

WinXP
Router = Netgear WGR614v2

Thanks in advance!

Rick

Check the documentation that came with the router. It should tell you what the administration login is. On D-Link stuff it's admin and Linksys is blank, Netgear could be something else entirely, but almost certainly not your email address.

Don't you have the setup manuals or CD?
All info you need is in there.

For Netgear you have to gain access to the router with: http://192.168.0.1

If you did not have a password just type in Admin as the user and press enter.

When you are in the router you can then set/change the password in the Maintenance section under Set Password.

I found my original box for the Netgear router, but the instructions are not inside. I tried using David's answer of Admin for the User Name, but it didn't work. I also tried using Admin for the User Name and the Password. That didn't work either.

Any other ideas?

Thanks again!

Threr is a reset button on the router.

Press it for 30 sec. and unplug the power supply and power back up.

It should reset to factory defaut setting:

User: Admin
Password: no password
