How to repurpose XP machines with Lubuntu O.S.

Apr 11, 2015 4:42AM PDT

Trying to revive older desktop and laptop PC's by installing Lubuntu. Not having much luck. Anyone have experience with this? Any insight would be appreciated.

Try Linux Mint as well as Puppy.

not always straight forward

it may not always be a straight forward install - you may have to find alternative ways to install. In other words, it is not always insert the disk, boot, install. for example I have two older computers that will run linux mint but I have to boot to compatibility mode to install. once installed, I have to boot to recovery mode in order to install the video driver just so linux will even run on those computer. once the video driver is installed, then everything is okay.

Lubuntu on an xp machine, worked fine because Lubuntu fit on a CD.

Installed the minimal version of PCLinux OS on another xp machine same way, burned to a CD and installed without a hitch

Lubuntu is my daughter's favorite Linux, I myself prefer and use Mint.

If you have not, take a look at the UTUBE tutorials on how to do Linux installations, there are several of them..and as other posters have said, there are several ways to go about it. Personally I like Mint...but I used the Ubuntu distro for years until the advent of Mint..it is an individual choice, personally I am a MAJOR fan, have been for a long time, have fun I think once you get into it you'll like it, good luck!!!
