This is a common issue when we take a diskette from some older DOS or Windows to XP. Microsoft documents it but how I deal with it is to format a fresh diskette with XP then go back to my Windows 98 machine to copy the files back to the new XP formatted disk.

I insert my floopy disk into my drive and Windows prompts me that the disk is not properly formatted and ask if I want to format the floppy disk. I'd like to ask if there's any way to retain the data on the disk without formatting it, i.e. probably by repairing it. How can I do that?
