How to reinstall IE in Windows XP?!?!?

by rahsaan_t / November 15, 2004 12:08 AM PST

My IE has died in my XP and I have installed all of the updates (SP1 & SP2)!

Is there any way ton uninstall IE and reinstall it or do I have do unistall XP all together?

1) I've reinstalled windows via the disk...
2) I've tried downloading it from Microsoft but I get an error message stating that a newer version is on my computer.

HELP!!!!

Download and use "IEFix" - a general purpose fix for Internet Explorer (Win 98/ME/2000/XP):

Note: Else, some of the core Internet Explorer ".dll files" may not be correctly registered or need registering. First, verify the exact path of where the Iexplore.exe file is found and used as noted for the "Primary. . ." example. Second, click Start, Run, type exactly "Primary Hard Drive Letter:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe" /rereg, and then either click OK or press Enter.

a. Registers Urlmon.dll, Mshtml.dll, Actxprxy.dll, Oleaut32.dll, Shell32.dll, Shdocvw.dll, [Q281679].

b. Refreshes Internet Explorer using IE.INF method. Note:

"Unable to Install Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP (Q304872)"

"How to Reinstall or Repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP (Q318378)"

c. Initiates "SFC /Scannow" (Win2K&XP), [Q310747].

The solution is simple. Go to www.mozilla.org and download your self a free MOZILLA FIREFOX 1.0, or go to Microsoft's UPDATE site and see if there is an update for IE. You may want to try START>RUN> and type in "SFC[space]/SCANNOW." You will need your winxp installation cd for this. For me Firefox works great and I don't need any thing else.

Firefox is great I use it as my default browser.
But you fail to see the problem. IE is apart of the XP Kernal so if IE is not working then other things in the XP environment will not including Windows update. For example IE 6 help library is the basis for most help files of software written for XP like XP Smoker, Ad-Aware SE and so on. That is my problem at the moment with my XP settup. My problem will only be fixed until I reinstall windows XP. I am in the middle of backing up 60 gigs of files from current and past projects and then the next step is to uninstall XP SP2 then reinstall XP Home. I was told that to reinstall XP will not erase my files but to back it up anyway Just In Case( Mr. JIC ). That includes any software keys.

You don't have to do an unistall and a reinstall. You should be able to do just a repair of XP.
