How to protect pdf files from printing and editing?

Oct 2, 2012 4:38PM PDT

Hello Friends,

I have some pdf files that I want to protect from being printed or edited. Can someone suggest me a free tool which I can download for complete protection? I did not get any suggestion from my search so I think you will help me in this discussion forum.

Thanks and Regards

It certainly can be done with Adobe Acrobat, but that isn't free. Maybe other pdf-editors also have the option.

An interesting alternative that you might want to research is the open source pdf-toolkit: http://www.pdflabs.com/tools/pdftk-the-pdf-toolkit/

While Adobe does this, it is not "complete protection."

I see Kees noted the Adobe answer but let's be clear it is "protection" but as it does not stop folks from screen capture or taking other means to copy the content your goal to protect this PDF is going to upset some.

That is, if you want to protect it, don't share it.
