Question

How to prevent tablet from waking computer in sleep mode?

Mar 30, 2013 7:24PM PDT

When I plug in my Galaxy Tab 10.1 to the USB port on my sleeping Vista machine, the tablet will take the computer out of sleep mode.

I plug the tablet into a self-powered USB hub for charging but do not need computer functions.

I disabled the Galaxy Tab in the device manager but did not find resolution.

I would suggest you first start your computer and then plug in your tab and then turn your desktop in sleep mode.....

That's a new feature.

On my PC it's called sleep and charge. Vista is your clue your PC may not have that feature. Try Kees's suggestion and look over your PC's maker's notes for the sleep and charge feature.

Yes there may be wake on mouse, wake on keyboard things to disable but given no machine detail (especially the manual) I'll stop here.

Why not buy a simple USB charger that plugs into the mains? Something like this: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5010875.htm . I bought a much cheaper one in The Netherlands. It had 2 USB ports, so my son and his girlfriend can charge their iPod simultaneously.

The nice thing: you can use it also when traveling. Any hotel has a mains.

By the way, my old (2007) XP PC has USB power when hibernating or turned off and it doesn't wake up when charging my TomTom GPS. But I must admit I didn't try it in sleep mode (I never use it), nor with a Galaxy Tab (I don't have it).

You know, I already have several similar wall wort devices. I could even plug the device into a motherboard powered hub and not have a problem with the computer turning on. I'm just stubborn and want control of my computer. What you're suggesting is a simple and practical solution though. Thanks.
