burn as image

Use your cd burning software and burn it as an iso image. That's the only way I know to make it work. I use Nero, and it has selection to allow me to burn the cd as an image. From there you must set your computer to boot your cd-rom or DVD-rom as the first boot device which can be set within your BIOS.

After that, put your your Knoppix cd in your cd-rom and restart your computer and your computer will boot from the cd and you can go from there.

Maybe some bad news for you

After all that time to download your "KNOPPIX_V3.6-2004-08-16-DE.iso" file, let me inform you that perhaps you really wanted the "KNOPPIX_V3.6-2004-08-16-EN.iso" one.

The difference is DE is the German version, and EN is the English version.

Or you could have gotten v3.7, as in "KNOPPIX_V3.7-2004-12-08-EN.iso"

The Change Log for v3.7 says:
* V3.7-2004-12-08
- Lots and lots of package updates
- Kernel 2.4.27 + 2.6.9 (w/ ACPI)
- KDE update: 3.3.1 from Debian/unstable
- FreeNX 0.2.5 (Fabian Franz)
- Java security update (1.4.2_06)
- added a few graphics cards entries
- added menu entry for SAMBA-browsing
- isdntool-knoppix for text+GUI based ISDN configuration (will replace isdn-config soon)
- removed some docs to keep iso image size down (this took awfully long)

(NT) (NT) Thanks for the detailed input - Chuck. Will do.
