Answer
Appleworks documents in LION

Prior to LION, are you positive that you were opening your Appleworks documents in Pages and that you were not actually opening them in Appleworks?
Lion cannot run any program/app that is not coded to run on the Intel processor. Appleworks was only coded to run on the PPC processor but, with the aid of a small app called Rosetta, Appleworks could run on a computer with an Intel processor.

Lion removed Rosetta, with the obvious results.

Pages will open Appleworks documents that were created as Word Processing documents, Numbers will open Appleworks spreadsheet documents and Keynote "may" open Appleworks graphic documents.

That said, if you double click on an Appleworks file, the system will attempt to open it as usual and then fail.

Try this: Right click (Control + Click) on the Appleworks word processing file that you want to open and choose Open With.
From the choices, pick Pages. (there is a way to make that choice permanent)

Does that work?

The right click worked on one spreadsheet. Doesn't work on any Word Processing documents. Maybe something else will turn up..Thanks
