Question

How to not have to reboot TV and DVR so play DVDs?

by arbojenn / July 22, 2011 6:28 AM PDT

Watching regular cable. When we change to HDMI1 AV so tht we can play a disc on our samsung DVD/Blue Ray, we ge the mode not supported message. Sometimes, after an hour of playing with he different remotes-DVD, DVR, and TV--we can finally get to the select device screen. But we have found if we unplug everything for a minute, we get the signal after the television reboots. Any way to avoid having to reboot or play remote roulette to get to play DVDs? Thanks.

The concept of ease of use vanishes with multiple devices and more.

This is why I keep home theater setups as simple as possible and get the Logitech Harmony to make the remote roulette a thing of the past.

Logitech Harmony? I have never heard of that. Will have to google it and find out. Is it difficult to set up?

Yup, my career included designs of things like that.

On topic, many are playing remote roulette. I know Samsung has some unifying system but for now when I have a hodge podge I get the Harmony.

Didn't work. Guess I'll just have to unplug and reboot everytime I want to play a DVD.

That didn't work either. Guess I'll just limit the use of DVDs and reboot when we do want to watch one. Getting it serviced would mean having Geek Squad back out to hook things up for us again as we are not tech savvy at all. Seems funny that once we reboot, we don't have problems for a few hours. Then all of a sudden it loses the signal and we get mode not supported. But it obviously is as sooner or later--usually with a reboot-we get one. If we play around with the remotes--usually doing the same things over and over again with various permutations of remotes--we finally get the My Devices page. Strange.

I do appreciate your help and input. Thank you so much.
