On 1 GB XP runs fine (as fine as it can with such a processor) and Vista runs slower. Indeed. But I doubt if such a machine is worth the investment of a new retail license for XP.

Add more ram

If I was in your situation I would try to add more ram. 1gb is not enough. 3gb would be the max for your 32-bit installation. You may be required to replace the sticks you have now with bigger sticks. I am assuming that you have two sticks (512mb each) right now. Try running a scan on the Crucial website. That site will match your machine with the correct memory to maximize your performance...

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
