If you haven't done so already

I'd recommend NOT doing it-your loss of several functions is almost assured, if you game any-some of them will not ever function properly, if at all. I have heard also (If you've made the move already) that Ghost doesn't work correctly with Vista either. So, that really leaves you the Vista Install media for repair and recovery. Like I said "Don't, if you haven't already-"

HP has their own method.

I used that and then duplicated the disks for safety.

But TC is spot on. Expect reduced functionality in Vista. Frankly I wouldn't upgrade.

Since you have Vista Ultimate...

You have multiple options:

1.) Look for an HP system recovery disc creation wizard listed in the Start menu. It may or may not run after the upgrade but the recovery partition should still be intact. That may let you create a backup of XP Media Center edition, which you'll need if you ever want to perform a clean install.

2.) Go Control Panel->System and Maintenance->Backup and Restore Center and choose to backup your entire computer. This works the same way as other disk cloning software, backing up your entire hard drive including all installed programs and files. The bad news, however, is that if you have any problems with your computer now they will be present every time you restore your computer in the future.

3.) Wait for SP1 to be released for Vista, which now adds the ability to create recovery media for the operating system. Just hope nothing goes wrong between now and then.

Hope this helps,
John
