And it has to rely on a lot of factors.
My thought is to look at what ARP and RARP report on the router. Why on the router? Remember I don't know how much networking you know but you did ask a network question so I take it you know or would google ARP and RARP and also you know how switched hubs would make your PC's ARP table be incomplete.
