Question

How to learn how to operate a Smart Phone.

Nov 1, 2018 4:28PM PDT

I'm getting on a bit and my wife bought me a simple doro mobile primarily to take fishing in case I needed help which I thought was a giggle especially when I thought of her if the phone at home went and all she could hear was, gurgle gurgle gurgle as I sank. About all I used it to text my children.
Then my middle son said I should come into the 20th century and gave me his Samsung Galaxy Core Prime at least that is what I think it is.
The phone has a large number of Apps on it which I find absolutely confusing and I can only send Text messages by mistake. The thought crossed my mind that perhaps it might be worth buying a new Samsung J5 with no Sim card, take the giffgaff Sim card from the Samsung my son gave me and place it in the new phone but I don’t know if that would work but if it did I could add apps as I felt fit and learn how they work slowly. I did ask thes questions on a Samsung forum but no answers came.

But why change phones? The apps on the screen can be deleted so you don't have to see or use them.

Thanks for such a speedy reply.
1. Because the SP is elderly and I suspect has a week battery.
2. Because my memory is not what it was and I can't assess how useful the apps are.
3. Because the Samsung J5 has some good write ups.
I understand what you are saying but the thought of starting with a fresh new FP attracts me.

I've had folk complain about the battery a lot.

Many Smart Phones need daily charging. They had a flip phone that went a month between charges so they are shocked to see daily charging.

2. Removing the app off the screen doesn't delete it. It just cleans up the screen so you have less to fiddle with.
3. Let's check out how long the J5 battery lasts.

https://www.phonearena.com/reviews/Samsung-Galaxy-J5-2017-Review_id4376/page/4 gives it about a day and a half so if you don't use it much, TWO DAYS. Turn on GPS and maps and you are back to daily charging so maybe no improvement over what you have.

Hope this helps.

...don't want to use. Also turn off wifi on the device and then watch to see if some app turns it back on. Locate that app and trash it too. I can go days on my LG Optimus, but tha was after I brutalized it, taking off most apps but what I needed.

Many thanks for all of your answers. I accept that learning to use a SP is much like leading to use a PC, just playing with. I'll get there.

A battery charging question.
Nov 9, 2018 9:19AM PST

I bought a new battery and its been on charge on and off for two days and its still only up to 80%. I'm still finding my way round this phone and looking for a way to sort this out today I'm sure that I came across some information on different forms of charging such as Trickle charging but I failed to take a note. So, are there different ways to charge this phone and if so could someone please tell me what I need to do to speed the charging up. Many thanks.

Never had a speed issue,.

I plug in the phone and the next morning it's good to go at 100%. It's been decades and I've never had to research charging methods for hundreds of phones between office and home.

What you are telling me, tells me there is a flaw in your phone or battery. I'd get it repaired or change phones.

Right, the battery I just bought cost £3.47 and I'm still not certain if that is the problem or the SP. So, fed up with wasting time I'm inclined to buy a Samsung J5 there are so many companies selling them and as I resent being ripped off can anyone suggest affirm where I won't get ripped off?

That's too cheap IMO.
