Question

How to kill an unkillable process ?

Mar 10, 2016 4:05PM PST

Today, I was looking why my computer was running slow so I went in task manager and saw a process called Pcxflt Service that was slowing down the CPU. I tried to kill it, it worked for a few seconds but then it restarted. I also tried to stop the service and it said "Unable to stop service". Would anyone know how to stop it from starting again every-time ?

Answer
It was killed.

But respawned. To remove this, you would uninstall the pcfix software from the machine.

It is not a program

The process is not a program that shows up in Programs and Features. I think it is a Graphic Filter. It is in System32 and not possible to erase.

Everything can be erased, even in System32.

And, for example when i open up Utorrent's installer to install it, it opens up and then directly gets closed by pcxflt.exe , it's the same thing for games installers like Battlefield 4 or anything with violence.

Ahh...Utorrent.

Explains a lot. People who use this get bad things. I'd scan as suggested.

Yes, but

Yes, I've tried but even ADWcleaner installer does then same thing. Even for games like asphalt 8. It is also an Internet Filter.

Don't know if you did all of Grif's list but...

Try Bob's suggestion of a Linux distro to remove it.

Is there any way to quarantine it ?

I'll say no.
Mar 11, 2016 4:30PM PST

Unless it's picked up by an AV, then not likely. Are you unsure about using Linux to get rid?
Dafydd.

Do you know the files it's using?
Mar 11, 2016 4:31PM PST

Boot Safe Mode and then remove those files.

Yes, but
Mar 11, 2016 4:33PM PST

but, but, but ! What are you ? 10 years old or something ?
1. Did you uninstall the pcfix software from the machine like Bob asked ?
2 Did you use Grif's link as Dafydd asked ?
3. Keep using Utorrent and expect more of the same...
4. Did you look into the start up menu to see if you can stop this from starting ?

- Collapse -
No
Mar 11, 2016 4:48PM PST

BTW I'm 15 years old.

1. Im unsure what pcfix software is but if it's the pxsvc.exe . It does not show up in Install/Uninstall.
2.I do not know how to work with Linux.
3.I use BitTorrent to download TV shows.
4.It does not show up in start up programs. ( Is there any advanced startup program editor ?)

The link I gave was over 10 years ago.

And was to folk that need the power but don't want to learn Linux.

There is no learning involved. It's the same as using Windows Explorer to find and delete the nasty file you want gone, just with all the power you need.

Nods. Utorrent.
Mar 11, 2016 4:51PM PST

That's what I find on the most interesting messed up PCs. Time to uninstall as much as you know about then complete scans with Grif's help.

BUT FIRST!!! Save what you can not lose. Some of the newer infections are booby trapped to wipe out the PC or encrypt if you try to remove or disarm the items.

I won't pass any judgement about Torrents but you know from experience this is not a good sign.

Restore
Mar 11, 2016 4:59PM PST

Yep, I'll try my best. I think that it's installed on a Private Network so I can't see the files. The Internet Filter program blocks any content that would be shocking. I've considered doing a Dual Boot so I could install what I want without pxsvc.exe in my way but I've only got 9 gbs of HDD Space left so I'd like to know if it's possible to do it on a external hard drive ?

PS: Thanks for your help.

What is "do it"?

I would be guessing here.

These apps and services are rarely installed on a network and with your replies to date it sounds like you are still lost.

Maybe you have to get support from where you can.
