Question

How to keep a highlighted file in the same place

Jan 22, 2015 4:20AM PST

Windows 7 Ultimate: When in a files window, how do I keep

a highlighted file in the same place on a screen when I leave

that window and return? I.E. If the highlighted file is at the

top of the screen and I leave that window and return, that

highlighted file is then at the bottom of the screen. I want

that highlighted file to remain at the top when I return.

Have you checked for viruses and malware? It sounds like you may have been victimized by something.

Answer
Iffy behavior.

I tried this and it all seems to revolve around focus. If I alt tab away and back it's good. But if I mouse click the selected item may be unselected.

My bet is that's behavior by design. That is, if you feel this is not right you may have to stop using Windows Explorer.

Iffy behavior

I'm did not present my question correctly and therefore did not make it clear. Here's what I'm trying to do.
Example: Open a large folder which contains many folders. Scroll down a few pages and highlight a folder at the top of the screen. Open it. Now click back to the parent folder using the left arrow on toolbar at top of the screen. The parent folder that you just opened (which is still highlighted) is now at the bottom of the screen. I'd like that folder to remain at the top of the screen when I return to it. (So that I don't have to scroll down to see the files that follow.)

Is there a way or a setting in Windows Explorer to force that folder to remain at the top of the screen when I return to that screen?

For that I use more than one Window.

I open 2 windows (both Windows Explorer) and I can alt+tab from one to the other without losing my selection list. If I have just one window, then it's going to lose the selection.

Are you thinking about some linux file browser?
