You don't
Oct 2, 2011 10:58PM PDT

You don't. Assuming you had a copy of XP which was obtained legally, then odds are good that you won't have all the necessary drivers to make the system work well. It's a myth that Windows comes loaded with all these drivers.

More than that, XP is on life support now, and even that is set to end soon. You are MUCH better off, for many different reasons, running an actively supported OS. Also, Asus is unlikely to offer any kind of technical support so long as you have XP installed on the netbook.

But if you want to find these things out on your own, then you need to do a little research on how to install XP on a SATA HDD.

Dead end. Why?
Oct 3, 2011 1:02AM PDT

1. XP

I found that XP, the original without the SP2 or later CD is a dead end for too many reasons. Let's not repeat the reasons (it's on the web.)

2. SATA drives.
The error looks like you didn't install the SATA drivers or enable some IDE emulation. And you did not tell the forum why you didn't do either one. Do tell more.

3. Drivers.
XP drivers are rare. If you don't find them at HP you search with google.

4. 13$
Folk will do this for much less. But almost all of them ask you to do some work.
