Let Windows Update do it

I would just let Windows Update do it.

Got to the Control Center, then Windows Update and ensure it is turned on. Windows will then offer you the correct Windows Updates in due course.

..this...The instructions are included in the link below:

Update: Preparing Your Windows XP Computer For SP3

As to the advantages for doing so..just a couple below:

1. As of July 2010, Microsoft no longer supports Windows XP SP2. See the STICKY NOTE At The Top Of This Forum

2. Installing SP3 greatly improves the security of your Windows XP machine and includes the opportunity to continue downloading and installing critical Windows Updates which plug a number of security vulnerabilities.

Hope this helps.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
