Question

How to install programs from ext. hard drive to new computer

Aug 30, 2017 5:53AM PDT

I tried googling this question but as you might imagine the results pertained to recovery programs for crashed hard drives.

I'm just wondering how to recover and install programs I have from a previous hard drive (now external) to a new computer (programs such as Smith Micro Anime Studio, Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, etc.)

I appreciate your time and knowledge.

Answer
In general programs don't transfer.

You must reinstall them.

There are a few programs that you can just move the folder.

But can I access the install files, and reinstall them?

Can I access the install files, etc. necessary for a reinstall, and go from there? I don't have access to the software anymore, which is why I was hoping there might be a way through the programs installed on the hard drive (formerly in a laptop, now in an external enclosure).

Any way?

Are not ones I've heard anyone transfer. You must re-install those apps.

Some folk copy the install CD/DVD to the HDD for later use. If not you run into issues like this.

Remember you are not the first to ask this question, I may not write it all here.
