How to increase the range of my laptop's built-in antenna?

Aug 27, 2004 7:50AM PDT

I am using a Compaq Presario 3045US laptop. It has a built-in wifi antenna. I subscribe to a 802.11b ISP. Is there a way I can increase the range of my laptop's antenna?
Thanking all in anticiapation.

Thanks for the reply. This was very useful, however one further question. I could not locate DWL-900AP (or perhaps DWL-900AP+) on Dlink site. So I looked up the nearest match, DWL-800AP+. The setup instructions say "To repeat the wireless signal, enter the 12 digit Ethernet MAC Address of the wireless router or access point" (ref ftp://ftp.dlink.com/Wireless/dwl800AP+/QIG/dwl800AP+_QIG_100.pdf). If you'd recollect I mentioned that my ISP provides Wifi access. I am not sure that he is going to tell me MAC address of his AP to me. In his present setup he clearly doesnot have to provide his customers this info.

I don't need the MAC address of a WAP, but that of the PC or device I have. THe output of the ARP command may reveal such.

The repeater would NOT have to know such things. I know, I've installed more than a few.
