You do not say what editor you are using, but you would

typically not write high quality video to a CD. It doesn't have enough capacity. If your editor does not have a higher quality setting, you need a new editor. You also need a DVD burner.

Original vcds are produced by professional equipment

and software. You need to capture at a high resolution to get good video. Assuming this is being done (if your capture is poor, you can't improve the output product), the video must be properly converted to a vcd format. Pinnacle may not be optimized for this. I don't know what would be. I think everyone assumes at least a single sided DVD for video.

don't think that will help

I don't think that would solve your problem. I am having the same issue. You hook your camcorder up to your TV and see acceptable quality. You then hook your camcorder up to the computer and capture the picture- and you see it is a much lower quality. That is a problem with how you are capturing the video to your computer. If what you see on your computer is not acceptable when you do a preview, getting a DVD burner won't help.

I think we both need advice on how to get the highest quality capture - I use USB and Pinnicle Studio 8. Sounds like I need a different cable and a different software.

setting?
Dec 23, 2004 5:46AM PST

you ought to be able to get very good ntsc res from a good miniDV camcorder. could be the usb cable isn't fast enough, have you considered firewire?

may be a simpler fix, have you looked around the "capture settings" in your software? you want 720 x 480 (or maybe 520 or so) --fj

Some call me mean for expecting others to put VIRTUAL DUB into google.com or reading the VITUAL DUB manual.

I will not duplicate that information here.

I will however hook up my DVcam and compare Virtual Dub settings.

Cheers,

Bob

VirtualDub is a video capture/processing utility for 32-bit Windows platforms (95/98/ME/NT4/2000/XP), licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

I basically started VirtualDub in college to do some quick capture-and-encoding that I wanted done; from there it's basically grown into a more general utility that can trim and clean up video before exporting to tape or processing with another program. I released it on the web and others found it useful, so I've been tinkering around with its code ever since. If you have the time, please download and enjoy.
