how to include phone number in contact page?

Aug 6, 2007 8:34AM PDT

Hello, I was reading on how important is to have contact information and a phone number in every website.
But I'm working for a client now, and I need to talk to her about the contact info she wants in the site, I think having the phone number is a good idea, but if she gets some dude from india trying to sell her viagra over the phone, she's gonna kill me.

is there good way to do it?

thanks, Marcelo.

Phone book?

Is she listed in the phonebook?

If she has a listed number, then the phone number is already online. Having the phone number on the website just shows that you are a real business. It isn't likely to generate calls like e-mail on a contact page welcomes spam. The amount of calls that would need to be made and the cost involved to generate sales doesn't even make it worthwhile. She MIGHT get calls related to her business, but she will get those anyway. (i.e. buy advertising, buy supplies, etc.)

The phone number is good idea for a business, because it provides the sense of "if I need to contact them, I have an easy and quick way to do so" ...

Also, why would she kill you? Of course there is a certain risk involved, but none of my clients have ever gotten weird phone calls, and it wouldn't be your fault anyhow. Once the number is up there, it's out of your control who is gonna call. Just make sure she is aware of the good and bad, (more good than bad), and whatever decisions she makes... that's what you are gonna do.
