How to improve my WiFi connection?

May 8, 2020 9:36AM PDT

Hi,
The internet router in my home is located on the ground floor.
I play Playstation on the 2nd floor, so the internet connection / speed is a bit slower when I'm playing.
I'd like to know what steps I can take to improve the connection / speed?
I was advised to buy a Google Nest, but I'm not sure how many I need, whether I also require a Point, etc.
Could someone please advise me on how to resolve this issue? Thanks a lot in advance!

The Nest is a good idea.

But I can't guess how many since I don't know the house layout.

What I use is Powerline WiFi since it connects to the router then through powerline and you get your very own dedicated WiFi you don't have to share in the room you need it.

These start about 50 for good speed kits and go up. Examples:

Powerline vs. Wi-fi

Discovering what works best in your home is trial-and-error.
Here are a couple of links to reviews of powerline adapters. We had a Netgear AV500 years ago which worked OK, and we had a TP-Link AC1000 (or maybe AC1200?) which worked even better.

Here's a link to reviews of Wi-fi adapters:

If your Playstation is located two floors above where the router is you might try using a wi-fi extender plugged into an A/C outlet on the floor in between.

Almost forgot

When we were shopping for wi-fi extenders we decided to buy from a local store with easy returns in case a chosen item didn't work out well. There's a chain of office supply stores in our area called Staples, and, not only do they offer 30-day return for refund, they also match match prices with Amazon. Maybe you have a store like that in your area?

After so many calls on extender failures.

I don't. As in never ever.
