How to identify USB ports

Dec 27, 2004 9:44AM PST

I have a 2001 Packard bell iMedia desktop with Windows ME.
I have been running an Epson C82 printer from a USB port via a powered 4 port hub.
Without any intervention from me - other than switching the printer on - it has suddenly decided not to recognise the route to the printer.
When I try to update the port thru'start, printers ,properties etc it tells me to use a valid port number . How can I find a list of valid ports ?

Have you tried plugging it directly into the USB port? Hubs go bad. Try that and post back.

Have you tried doing a restore to a time when it worked?

How to identify USB ports

Hi glb613
I have deleted the programs and reinstalled.
Swapped round all my usb connections.
System restored backwards until I found one that was successful.
Eventually I got my printer to work but the Status monitor keeps giving me "cannot find file" message.
I have connected my printer to my laptop where everything works perfectly - hence my confusion !!!!

Identify USB Ports

Hi glb613
Since posting my last message I have continued "playing" - went to another restore point and eventually got the printer to work.I do not know what I did but I now have a working printer with full Status Monitor!!
I had in fact tried the epson"Remote diagnostic"facility but as I am green on computers I was too slow in answering some Q's and got timed out.
Many thanks for your time in responding to my enquiry - one I owe you !

I'm a firm believer in using system restore. It has save me many times.
