and I appreciate the problems.
I see problems with hiding folders as many users set "Folder Options" global option to unhide folders and files, and so in Windows Explorer, (XP's file manager), hidden folders are not really hidden, they just show up as shaded folder icons.
But that would work if you do not have this option set in your XP account and do not intend to change that.
But I do have a workaround which I have just tried out myself. It was complicated to get my head around it but it actually seems to work quite well.
If you are interested it goes like this.
1] Create a new folder somewhere else on the hard drive. In fact it can be created in your main Recipes folder and hidden, but you will want to add to this later and so you would have to unhide it each time to access it. Creating this main folder elsewhere means you can just hide it physically by locating it somewhere other than your Recipes folder and keeping the Recipes folder neat and tidy.
Name that folder whatever you like, but it is going to hold all the xxx_files folders you have, so some name that tells you what it contains would help.
2] Open two Windows Explorer windows, (the one you already have, and another one), and Tile them vertically so that they display side by side on the main display. To tile them, head over to where the clock is in the Notification area, right click any empty area and select "Tile windows vertically", (the words may be different for XP).
3] You now have two Explorer windows open. One has your new Folder displayed and the folder is open and ready to receive folders and files. In the other Explorer window, navigate to your Recipes folder and display the contents.
4] One at a time, COPY, (do not Cut as if anything untowards happens during the transfer you may lose files), the folder and associated file to the newly created folder. Copy is CTRL+click both entries, right click to select Copy, then in the new folder in the empty space, right click and select Paste.
5] After you have copied one set, find the file with that newly copied folder and file and create a shortcut. Right click that file and select "Create shortcut". The shortcut should be created in that newly folder. Drag that to the Desktop for now, (if you have to minimise one of the Explorers to do that, then that is what you will have to do). You can rename the shortcut as you wish. Minimise both Explorer folders and click, (or double click depending how you open applications and files), the shortcut on the Desktop to test it works.
6] If it does work as you wish and expect, then what you do with the original folder and file now is up to you. You can delete, but I would suggest you move them somewhere are your backups.
7] Do the same for the rest.
When you have completed that, you should have;
a) A Desktop full of shortcuts.
b) An empty Recipes folder, (at least, no more of these _files folders and main files).
c) a new folder full of those _files folders and main files.
9] Now you can COPY the shortcuts into your Recipes folder. Once they are all there and tested, you can then delete the Desktop shortcut files.
Others here may have better ideas. This workaround is work, meaning depending how many folders you have it will take time to do properly and you need to be careful all the time.
Did you know you can simply and easily Bookmark or make as Favorite these web site recipes? They will will stored as entries in your browsers' Bookmarks or Favorites, and you just click on any entry to display the full pages.
I hope that helps.

I am using Google Chrome with WinXP. When I save recipes, I save them as ".htm completed" , then a folder is created associate with the main file name. The folder's name end with "_files" and it is not an extension.
If I create a "standard" folder "Pastas" or "Cakes" to put all my specific recipes in them, these folders will be mixed up with the "_files" folder's name and it will be tedious to look for them.
I want all the folders with the name ending by "_files" to be hidden. I know I can use "shift-click" and 'control-click" to highlight them in batch and select "hidden" in "property" but it will be tedious to do it for every other recipes I will save. I could also make a mistake and highlight a "standard" folder. Also, my main recipe's folder will look cleaner with all these folders hidden. BTW I searched Cnet and the web and I found nothing. Thank you
