Question

How to have computer sleep at night (to save power) / wake

Mar 5, 2016 5:43AM PST

Hi folks. I have about 3 computers in my house that currently run 24/7. I'm thinking this is probably not good for power saving so I'm trying to figure out a way to have those computers only on during certain hours. I'm looking for a way to have them sleep and wake on a schedule I set so they are available during the day but not at night when I'm sleeping. Help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Answer
They either do or do not do this.

Here I set mine to hibernate after so much time. To wake I tap the power button and due to the SSD the machine is ready in 20 seconds or so. As the wake feature is non-standard you have to check each PC if it does that.

How about instead of trying to set this up on a schedule you just go to each machine and put it in sleep mode before you go to bed.

In theory when someone wants to use one of the machines the next day all they have to do is tap a key and the machine will wake.
