How to get wired G4 to initiate dialup to ABS?

by lindarb / February 23, 2005 6:55 AM PST

How do I configure my wired G4 and my wireless PBG4 so that the wired G4 can initiate dialup to my Airport Base Station (graphite or snow)?

Right now, if the PBG4 connects to the LAN and initiates the dialup, the wired G4 can join the LAN and share the internet. But how do I configure the wireless and the wired so that the wired can initiate the dialup?

ABS and Dialup
by mrmacfixit Forum moderator / February 23, 2005 8:55 AM PST

I had this problem a while ago, BC (Before Cable)
This from the book
Connecting to the Internet Via the AirPort Network
If you are not connected, open Internet
Connect, located in the Applications folder, click AirPort in the toolbar, and click Connect.
Try this, if you haven't already, and let us know what results you get

Hope it helps

That only works from the wireless G4 which has Airport Card

In reply to: ABS and Dialup

The information you gave only works from the Powerbook G4 which has an Airport card and wirelessly communicates with the base station. Yes, it can communicate with the base station and tell it to dialup the internet. The Internet Connect pane shows no Airport choice in the toolbar on the wired G4 because it has no airport card. I created a 802.1X connection and when I click on its connect button, it says I am connected to my LAN. But I cannot tell the base station to dialup the internet unless the wireless PBG4 has already told it to do so. Can the wired G4 initiate dialup if it does NOT have an airport card?

What about this

What happens when you try to connect to the internet from the G4 by clicking on some internet related program. Web browser/email program/FTP client?
Do you get some form of error message?

G4 wired to base station cannot initiate dialup

Once again, the wired G4 (with no airport card) can access the base station but is not connected to the internet unless the wireless G4 (with airport card) first connects to the base station and initiates a dialup to the internet. Are you sure that a wired G4 without airport card can initiate a dialup?

Do you have Wireless to Ethernet Bridging enabled?
It's in the Airport Admin Utility under the Network Tab.
Once again, do you get an error message of any sort when you launch an internet enabled program from the G4?

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
