How to get rid of the 'Recently Viewed Products' bar ???

Oct 24, 2006 1:58AM PDT

at the bottom of CNet screen. I do not want this annoyance in any shape form or fashion... not even the miniature version when 'hide' button is clicked. This started happening today... do not know what brought it on but wish it gone.

Thanks for your assistance.

Found solution... at least temporarily :(
Oct 24, 2006 2:34AM PDT

Did a System Restore to last night and the annoyance is gone... may not last and wish I knew what caused it in the first place.

I understand little about ''History'' in the upper toolbar of Firefox 2.0 and how it works. I am seeing no real value or need for me.

Suggestions or explanation appreciated.

What am I missing?

I'm not seeing a 'Recently Viewed Products bar,' so could you point me in the right direction? (In these forums, the Cnet main page, etc as well as in the footers, above, them, etc.) Also, what is the correlation between that bar at the bottom of the Cnet page and the "upper toolbar" of Firefox? (Which toolbar might that be...search, address, or other?)

John, since I did the restore...
Oct 24, 2006 3:15AM PDT

and the toolbar at the bottom is gone I cannot point the direction since I know not where it came from in the first place... wish now I had made a screen shot. It apparently involved CNet and was a promotion of products with small images of each. It was a constantly moving toolbar which could be minimized to half size but would return to a larger toolbar when browsing from link to link. Sorry I cannot be of more help but this was indeed strange and very annoying.

As to the History tab in Firefox 2.0... it was not intended to combine it with the toolbar situation and I do not know if there is a relation. I simply do not understand what the History is all about and why I need it... would prefer not to see all the places visited listed there.

Hope I have cleared this a bit. Thanks for your response... I knew if anyone knew about this you would.

Have a nice day!

John... additional information
Oct 24, 2006 4:41AM PDT

I have now received and e-mail in response to my feedback to the unexpected toolbar this morning. The button to remove the toolbar was not there this morning as I searched hard for it. I have no idea who Aaron Newton, Product Manager, Application Development is nor who he represents. Still feel this is connected to CNet. His message follows:

Hi there,

Thanks for your feedback. We've added a button to remove the history bar entirely in the options menu. Presently, this action is permanent and there's no way to turn it back on. If you want to minimize the toolbar but keep it around, click the ''hide'' link in the toolbar.

Thanks again for your feedback. If you'd like to give us any additional feedback we'd appreciate it. Specifically, would it be useful information if it were presented differently?

Hope this helps... you may already know this individual. Addition of the Remove button should take care of this in the future.

The toolbar came back this afternoon so I removed it under Options... hopefully permanently!

Interesting...

I'm still trying to picture what you encountered, but considering the amount of stuff I block from Cnet and its advertisers I'll probably never see it. Anyways, I'm glad you got rid of it, for now. By the way, Aaron Newton, last time checked, was the 'big honcho' behind Download.com's music arm.

In regards to the history sidebar and address bar drop-down, it's so that if you want to go back to a website you recently visited but never bookmarked you can. Firefox 2.0 gives you the option to disable that, though...just go Tools->Options->Privacy and uncheck the first checkbox to remember browser history.

Hope this helps,
John
