How to get more pictures on my Kodak DX 7590?

Apr 22, 2005 8:31AM PDT

I just bought the Kodak DX7590 and I want to know in what setting(s) I need to have it so it lets me take more pictures (more than 20). Now, to get less quality pictures, I'd have to reduce the MP's right? I think that's how to do it but I'm not sure of that. When I did that, it didn't really increase the amount of pictures I had left to take.

How can I get more pictures out of my new camera?! Please, someone who really knows, help me! (Proffitt)

Thanks Happy

Quantity of Photos
Apr 22, 2005 11:56AM PDT

You have three ways to control the amount of photos you can store on a memory card:

1. Buy a larger memory card.

2. The menu has the option to use less megapixels:
5MP, 4MP, 3.1MP, 1.8MP (for more photos choose 1.8MP)

3. The menu lets you select JPG Quality - Fine or Standard (for more photos choose standard).

...............

Changing the megapixel setting to a lower megapixel should then show that you have more photos to go.
Remember it is not changed until you leave that command.

You don't have to max out the settings! (That wastes Space)

You don't need to take pictures at the max! (Unless you plan on printing them and hanging them in your home, etc). I just posted this on another board, see the picture examples within the link and you will see that even on low settings your pictures will probably look great, and you will have them in much smaller sizes!

2 things.
Apr 22, 2005 12:34PM PDT

1. That 20 sounds like you don't have a memory card in the camera.

2. With the highest setting and the 512MB SD memory card , it reports over 319 pictures can be taken. I think it goes past 500 if I move it back one notch on quality. But I learned long ago to leave it on the highest setting since I rarely get the second chance.

Yeah, I don't have a memory card in it but...
Apr 24, 2005 12:05PM PDT

Like I said earlier, my CX6230 has a 16MB memory capacity and it gives me up to 90 pictures without a memory card in it. So how come the DX7590 is not giving me more than 25 pictures with a 32MB memory capacity?

32MB of internal memory should be enough...
Apr 23, 2005 12:18AM PDT

I also have a Kodak CX6230 and that one is only a 2MP camera and I get up to 90 pictures with it with a smaller internal memory capacity than the DX 7590. So why won't my new and WAY Better camera (DX7590) give me more pictures with a 32MB internal memory capacity?

That's what I don't get... And I know that I dont have to have the camera on it's highest settings to get good pictures Wink.

Enough for what? Do the math. You are shooting without

a memory card, and asking folks to figure out why you can't get more pictures? Unbelievable!

OK, smart ***... READ what I'm actually saying here....
Apr 24, 2005 12:02PM PDT

I just said that with my older camera Kodak CX6230 gives me up to 90 pictures with a 16MB internal memory card. I'd get 90 picures WITHOUT an actual memory card other than the internal one.

So how come my DX7590 that's got a 32MB internal memory doesn't give me more than 25 pictures? If someone who knows how to read what I just typed here could help me (not be a smart ***), I'd appreciate it.

Read the manual. I still can't believe you're wasting

everyone's time because you refuse to get a memory card.

Listen, know it all, I'm not refusing anything...
Apr 24, 2005 10:10PM PDT

I AM getting a damn memory card, I am just asking why the camera is not giving me more than it should. And second of all, I DID read the manual, and if it said anything, I wouldn't be wasting my time with people like you.

If you don't have anything productive to say, shut up and don't reply to any of my posts.

Anyone else got any advice for me?

Yeah but that's with a 1GB card in it...
Apr 26, 2005 11:59AM PDT

My question is why is my camera only giving me about 25 pics with its 32MB internal memory, when my CX6230 only has 16MB and it gives me 90 pics?

I wish someone could get what i'm saying Plain

Hmm, the table notes what is possible.
Apr 26, 2005 12:15PM PDT

And I used my dx7590 to confirm the numbers.

The table didn't note the 1GB entry so it is clear to me you didn't look for the table about 1/2 down the page.

Well it says this is what the tables said...
Apr 26, 2005 12:20PM PDT

"Shown here with the spacious and speedy Transcend 1GB SD card." So it sounds to me that those tables are the explanation of what a 1GB card can do according to the MP settings.

But if I was wrong, then I was wrong. Let me know.
Thanks! Grin

About 1/2 down the page are tables with various memory sizes, settings and the fine and regular JPEG settings.

OK so... why more MP causes to have less pics?
Apr 26, 2005 12:54PM PDT

Can you tell me why if u have more MPs you get less amounts of pictures?

Thanks for help.

Do some research into JPEG compression.
Apr 26, 2005 1:00PM PDT

To get a better picture it appears they lessened the compression. Since SD memory dropped like a rock (I paid 39 bucks for my last 512MB card), this is the right thing to do.

Lower Megapixels below the 5 you have it set at
May 24, 2005 8:19AM PDT

You are taking pictures at 5 Meg, you need to lower that to 3 or lower in order to get more pictures on the internal memory. I did the same thing as you and that was the reason I could only get so many pictures on internal memory.
