Question

How to get MiniDV onto laptop, no card support?

I have a camcorder with MiniDV tapes, I used to use FireWire on my old desk top but that is dead. My new desktop replacement is a Asus G73JH-RBBX05, me and my buddy researched those external bus cards but it seems this laptop doesnt have slots for cards so I think that route is out. We also tried looking up firewire to usb adapters but a lot of people claimed they didnt work. Any ideas for me besides buying a new desk top?
