How to get installation software on a CD into a netbook?

Jun 23, 2009 2:45PM PDT

I'm thinking of getting a netbook(smaller, lighter)to use when traveling instead of my Toshiba notebook (larger, heavier). I have a Verizon Wireless Broadband Access USB antenna that can be used on any computer with a USB port, provided I have installed the software CD that came with the antenna. From what I've seen, many netbooks don't have a CD/DVD tray, so how can I get the installation software into the netbook so I can use my wireless antenna for accessing the web instead of depending on finding WiFi access?

You Could

Copy the software to a USB flash drive or SD card. Or use an external CD drive with the netbook.

Is the SW online?

Wildswolfe,
You might be able to find the 3G drivers and software online through the carrier. Just get online and download it.

Installing software from CD to netbook

I read somewhere that you can share the CD drive from your PC if you have the netbook networked to your PC. Seems like a simple solution. I am not sure it will work, however.

You can even...

Copy that CD to a folder and share that folder. There are so many solutions to this that only those that refuse to try will fail.

Thanks for all the answers to my post. Appears this is a relatively easy task to get around a netbook not having an optical drive so I'll be able to install my Verizon software.
