Question

How to get "capture video" on Power Cinema 3 working again?

Oct 8, 2011 6:52AM PDT

I have been using Cyberlink Power Cinema 3.0 to capture video from a VCR for years now. It has worked fine.

But two weeks ago, all of a sudden, the "Start Capturing" button in the "Capture Video" section doesn't work. The video picture comes through the VCR just fine. When I click on "Start Capturing" the hourglass just goes away, and instead of showing the video I'm trying to capture with the timer, it just fills up the screen with the Power Cinema logo. I can still hear the audio from the tape that the VCR is playing, but nothing is capturing. Why is there suddenly a problem now, after all these years? I did download software for a Logitech webcam in June, and I haven't tried to capture a video with Power Cinema since May. Would that have anything to do with it?

I sent the above paragraphs to Cyberlink and they responded with what I now know to be an automated response, as someone reprinted it on his blog word-for-word in the context that blogger was talking about. (Thank you, blogger.) The response told me to "update your display card and sound card driver. You may contact your display card and sound card manufacturer or the computer manufacturer to get the latest drivers."

Since I am far too much of an amateur to even begin to try to do this, I tried calling a company who has been to my home before. They couldn't come here on the weekend, but a guy sent me a link that he said will fix my problem because it will update my 3.0 to 6.0. He said the download will take a long time because I have dialup. (I am unwilling to pay $40.00 a month for internet.) The link took me to this download: "Updates: This update file updates PowerCinema 6 to PowerCinema 6 build 3316." Whatever that means. Because, remember, I have Power Cinema 3.0.

I tried to download it, thinking it would take 3 or 4 or 5 hours or something and it comes up as 37 hours. Yeah, right. I cancelled it.

Is there anything else I can do to make my "capture video" on my Power Cinema 3.0 work again?

Thank you.
