Resolved Question

How to get caller I.D. to display on computer

Sep 11, 2012 6:52AM PDT

I recently switched to Time Warner for their phone service. I noticed that the caller ID shows up on my TV, I like that. I had a "chat" with Time Warner and they don't have "that" service for a computer display. I tried several that I found on the Cnet download site, namely: Phone Tray, Itel Pop Free, EZ caller ID, Call 411, and Call Alert 1.0. None of these worked. Is there any that do?

Windows XP pro, SP3, BCM v.92 56K Modem, maybe this doesn't matter as my phone line is connected to a new modem that also has the high speed internet cable.

Thanks in advance,

Eddie

Looks like it's a software issue.

Problem resolved - setup issue
Sep 12, 2012 2:11AM PDT

It occured to me that since the phone line was plugged into my modem, there was no way to get caller id on my computer. So I plugged an additional line, from the wall, into the computer phone jack, just like in the old days of dial-up, and using the free phone tray program I was then able to get the caller id on the computer screen.

Thanks Bob for responding,

Eddie

Sorry that I didn't mention that.

You wrote it was connected to a new modem so I was left with the impression it was plugged in. For those that don't know, Caller ID shows up over the phone lines. So if you need that, said phone line has to be connected to the devices that have Caller ID features.
