The Facebook app has been troubled for years.

I would NOT take it as a sign there is something wrong with your phone.

You can try rebooting your phone (did you turn it off and on again?)

You can also check to see that there is a few gigabytes of free space on your phone as once in a while I get the "Dad, it's not working!!!" and they filled up the phone storage.

This would have been my suggestions as well.

Thanks. A memory came back and

I recall such an issue that we checked the above and then it worked on some other WiFi network. So there's that.

But this does point out a few more things to try if the above doesn't help. Remember that the Facebook app has a long history of problems. Even if the above and below doesn't work, it's still what it is.

Try these also:
1. Forget your current WiFi network. Add it back in, connect and re-test.
2. Try other WiFi networks.

Fix updates frozen on iPhone 6

I have met the same problem as you. To tell the truth, I think it is not difficult to repair. I have tried some common methods including force restart or soft reset iPhone to fix it but failed. Therefore, I have to apply an iPhone issue repair on Windows program to work for me because I don't want to lose any data. Indeed, using a professional tool is better than trying common ways. It repairs my issue within 3 minutes causing no data loss.
