How to fix corrupt files?

Feb 15, 2005 6:02AM PST

Due to corruption of system files, I had no choice but to reinstall the Windows XP OS on my notebook. As a result, I have lost important data on my notebook. By using a data recovery software (I used GetDataBack NTSF), I managed to recover some lost data. However, many of them are corrupt. In other words, for example, some recovered text files and Word documents are illegible (showing only strange looking characters) when opened with Notepad and Word.

I would like to know whether it would be possible to fix such corrupt documents. Applications can be reinstalled, but text documents have important information.

Also, is there any really good data recovery software which is known to recover lost data on formatted drive almost perfectly?

Did you solve it? (HELP!)

Hi! I am having the same problem as you, when I open recovered (and simply damaged) Word files, I just get odd characters. I've tried the recovery options & filters available with Office, but they don't solve the problem. Please let me know what you've found out about this problem! Thanks!
