Question

How to Extend My Wifi Outside the House?

My woodshop is in a separate building 130 feet from the house. So far, I've not had satisfactory results using Almond Extenders, either in "Extender" mode, or connected to the modem via Powerline, in "Access Point" mode. I have good line of sight, with just two tree trunks partially in the way, but I just can't get the bandwidth. What should I try next?

Thanks for the CNET article...but

I use the router in the article already. The network in the picture provided by Me too is the one that I have currently configured and is barely acceptable at the shop, 130 feet distant - Modem through Powerline to Access Point in house. The access point I use is the Almond, which I assume is omni directional. You are saying that buying another ASUS with its directional antennae would boost the signal significantly. Very hard for me to find tech data on these devices to see what the quantitative differences are before plunking down the $$.

Everytime our company sends out the techs, it's been $$$ to $,$$$. If you can solve it yourself with powerline systems, you save 3 to 4 figures over a tech/consultant. But for some the tech/consultant is the only way since it can get complicated.

Trying Cheap Directional Extender

In reply to: $$

Next step will be to put a directional (cheap) extender at the Powerline access point in the window aimed at the shop. I'm saving the packaging....

Extenders are hit and miss. If you can go with powerline see if you can use this.
