Proibably you forgot to install the necessary drivers and other utility programs. Get them from the Compaq site; be sure to select the right model and the right OS (note the difference between 32 en 64 bits).
If you can't find those drivers, you might be out of luck. Then back to 8.1 (or to Freedos it came with according to the specifications at http://h20566.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/template.PAGE/public/kb/docDisplay?javax.portlet.begCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.endCacheTok=com.vignette.cachetoken&javax.portlet.prp_ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01=wsrp-navigationalState%3DdocId%253Demr_na-c02715247-1%257CdocLocale%253D%257CcalledBy%253D&javax.portlet.tpst=ba847bafb2a2d782fcbb0710b053ce01&sp4ts.oid=4247493&ac.admitted=1411470264590.876444892.199480143) or only use it wired.
