Question

How to edit the main database of Windows Media Player?

Oct 6, 2013 10:36PM PDT

Windows Media Player corrupted only "Track One" of my CD's. I can go into Media Player and edit the data there but it will not change it on the main database except for the "Name" field.
How can I edit the "grayed out" fields on the main database? Since WMP pulls information from this database when it updates, it re-corrupts it in WMP again and again. Help!!

WMP & Gracenote
Oct 7, 2013 11:18AM PDT

Yes & no. The updates that WMP receives are similar to what Gracenote does (nice idea but poorly executed). That is a recurring problem once fields are corrected on the WMP wondow. The main problem is to change the lost or corrupted fields that WMP assigned to the file saved on the primary database (usually on the C drive). I don't see how that can be accomplished so I'm asking brighter minds to help me wit this.

Sadly I decided long ago to not use WMP.

It's been a problem for too many years and if there is a busted data item at gracenote it will continue to fix or break your edit over time.

I moved to simpler methods.

Repair music title and details in Window Media Player
Oct 15, 2013 6:13AM PDT

Step by step;
Open the Windows Media Player, and the specific title in question;
. highlight title and right click to see the drop down list, and choose "open file Location"
..the directory opens, make sure your song is still highlighted, right click and choose "properties"
...select the "Details" tab, and make all the changes necessary and remember to click "Apply" when you are finished. Job done.

If that doesn't work to your liking, download "mp3tag" ... and study it's usefulness to create and maintain all your media files...etc etc

Doesn't Work
Oct 15, 2013 8:28AM PDT

Thanks Russ but the details of the properties are locked and can't be changed with this problem. It's very frustrating. I'm thinking about copying the music into another player (itunes or some other) and doing the repair work there. Anyone have suggestions about that??
