How To Download Separate Accounts In WLM

by rsisaacs / November 9, 2014 3:54 AM PST

I have two email accounts for myself and my wife on a Win 7 laptop. When I start WLM it always downloads to both accounts. Is there a way to run off the auto download and be able to only download to one account when desired?

You don't download TO an e-mail account. You download FROM an e-mail account with the provider to a WLM database on your PC

I don't have WLM, but in Thunderbird (another e-mailclient) there's an option in the account settings to start a download from that account (or not) when the program starts and to repeat it every x minutes (or not). What options does WLM have?

If your wife and you download to different WLM 'databases' in different Windows accounts (that's not clear from your post), you simply delete your wifes e-mail account from your WLM settings, and your wife deletes your e-mail account from her WLM settings, and everything is totally separated.

There are only nits here to work with.

I know a little about how Microsoft thinks about all this. The concept of "identities" is now one that passed along with XP. This can really cause folk to flame others but in short, WLM doesn't do identities like Outlook Express did.

So what I find today are users that are looking for that and it's not in there. So how to accomplish this I can create two Windows user accounts and in each account WLM can be connected as desired to each WLM email account as desired. repeats that issue and how WMID worked and then is gone in WLM.

You can't imagine how nasty folk can be over this.

We Might Be Miscommunicating

My wife and I have separate email addys with the same ISP. We have separate PC's at home and use WLM.

When we travel we have a laptop that has WLM. It is set up with two "accounts" which is what WLM calls them. Call them mailboxes or whatever you wish. When I open WLM it shows both accounts in the left margin. Both accounts have their own inbox, sent mail, deleted mail etc.. When I open WLM my mail goes to my account and my wife's goes to hers. My sent mail goes to my sent folder as does hers and the rest of the folders in each account work as they should.

My only issue is when I open WLM on the laptop it automatically downloads mail to my inbox first and then hers. I don't want WLM to auto download to either account. I want to be able to open WLM then be able to select which account we want to download.

Sorry no. I think you're seeing what WLM should do.
