It's not surprising that Sony have this problem with connectivity. They have always had to do things slightly differently from other manufacturers.
I shall file this piece of information away and be prepared to wheel it out when needed.
Thanks

I just upgraded to a Dual 2 GHz PowerPC G5 (Mac) using OS 10.3.8 with iPhoto 4.0.3, but I couldn't download photos from my Sony MVC CD300. When I first connected the USB cable from the camera to the G5, I got a message stating: "You have inserted a disk containing no volumes that Mac OS X can read. To continue with the disk inserted, click ignore." However, when I clicked Ignore, nothing happened.
I previously owned a PowerPC G4 that used OS 9.2 and my camera would either download or I could insert the mini-CD into my optical drive and read the images on it.
Unfortunately, Sony doesn't offer much in the way of support for this issue (or any others, actually!). I thought the only solution would require upgrading to iPhoto 5, but I made one more search through Apple's Support site, and stumbled across a new page entitled "iPhoto: Troubleshooting Camera Connections."
Even though Sony Mavica digital cameras are listed as compatible with iPhoto, the camera has to be set to Picture-Transfer-Protocol (PTP) before you can download. In addition, you will need to open Image Capture in the Applications folder. As soon as these steps were taken, the camera was recognized by iPhoto and all photos downloaded into Image Capture.
Hope this helps any others who have encountered this problem -- sure beats buying more software or a new camera!
