Question

How to disable wired device on Linksys WRT160N router?

Jan 18, 2015 4:38AM PST

Hi I have a Linksys WRT160N Router setup at home, The problem is my step mom watches streams tv off of a set-top box all night (until 5am) and sleeps all day, is there a way I can set a time to disable her set-top box? It is connected via Ethernet cable, I have the MAC address and IP address? Please is there a way I can disable her set-top box? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks in advance God Bless

Did you check the parental controls?

Some of them have timed operations to block some or all IP ports. This is NOT going to disable the wired device but may actually meet your goal.

I have tried the timed operation option, but it didn't work.

Tell a little more.

What do you mean didn't work? I find folk new to this are not networking masters so they turn it on but didn't block TCP and UDP ports from 0 to 65536.

I think you've got it.

I think you've got it. That's what I'm doing wrong. What should I select from the "Blocked Applications" list?

See the new rule boxes?

Down near the bottom, for Application Name try ALLTHINGS

For the port range block 0 to 65,536 (or 65535) and both protocols. That's as good as no connection. Since port ranges and assignments are all over the web, I'll pause here.

Answer
This is not about software/hardware....

It's your stepmom that needs fixing. She's not happy for some reason. Try to find out why. There must be a reason she spends the small hours watching this.
