Question

How to disable auto power off in canon A620

Jan 5, 2012 1:16AM PST

Hi everybody!

Please help me solving this problem if you have the time!

I've connected my Canon powershot A620 to a projector, because I wanted to make a live connection between two rooms. It worked fine, until the camera suddenly decided to turn off. I wonder if there was any way to disable the "auto power off" function?
Thx for your help.

Answer
Usually beyond most.

Over a decade ago in a place far away the company I worked for had this need. Since we needed thousands of such a camera, Canon provided a circuit modification to the company. I doubt this applies to this model but if you are serious you call Canon and see if they will give it to you.

Thanks Bob! I thought this was just a matter of downloading a new firmware, or so. Anyway, maybe I give it a shot and call the local service point, but I'm afraid they won't give much help. What's more frustrating: It needs to be ready and tested by Sunday.

To give you an idea why it was not software or firmware

Canon back then did not want such an important feature to fail if the software was imperfect so the timeout was in hard circuitry. Almost all consumer cameras and camcorders have this feature since they are not meant for long use or high duty cycles. You will find this always on feature in security cameras.
