how to disable auto arrange function on desktop

Everytime when I arrange icons on desktop as how I like ,after that if I right click on desktop-->arrange icons by-->auto arrange -->all the icons I have arranged will go back to the originality .I just want them arranged as what I like .How to disable "auto arrange" function , let it display as gray ,cannot be selected .

A "don't do that" answer. There are softwares to help lock icons on the desktop. Did you try this one -

This is a rather old issue with Windows. I find some rediscover this annoyance.
