Yep, that will work.

Under Vista and Win 7 it is no longer called "My Computer", just "Computer".

Also, there may or may not be a "Computer" icon on the Desktop, (it was automatically placed there in XP), but it should be in the Start bubble's list of items. Whichever you use, just right click the shortcut, and select Properties. Your computer system details will appear.

Yes, been there done that
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\System
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools

but still can't find "win7 version #".

xp used to allow posting 'version & sp#' just above the TaskTray.

I am running win7 64.

There is no service pack, is that the number you are thinking of, like current windows XP is SP3? SP1 comes soon, this coming month or next.

Until then it is just "Windows 7", no SP

Hmmm...
A fellow told me he was running "win7 version 3.4"
and asked me "What version of win7 are you running?".
"Da, I don't know", was my reply.

He probably means....

The only thing I can see that he might mean is the
"Windows experience index", a sloppy rating system that
tries to determine if you are getting the most out of your system.
The score will usually be low as the average user doesn't need
all that you can get out of Win7.

This is NOT a version number.

The only other thing that denotes what Win7 you have is it being
Basic, Home Premium, Pro, Ultimate.

I found this to be the best answer. It makes it clear what version I am running. This is good to have as issues might be tied to the version.
