How to determine what kind of CD-R burner (the manufacturer) I have

Apr 13, 2004 4:31AM PDT

I have not had recent luck with burning Fujifilm CDs. I sent them an e-mail and they were interested in knowing the manufacturer of my CD-R burner. Not sure where I can find this piece of information.

Look at the writings and stickers on the drive and use NERO's INFOTOOL.

But if said drive is a few years old, it doesn't matter. These drives are best given a CD Len Cleaner pass, then replaced. What's sad is that at 14.95 for the CD lens cleaner, I've actually bought a new CDRW for a desktop!

To squeak by, try a lower recording speed and if you find your CDR make, see if updated FIRMWARE is available.

In closing, a CDR is almost ancient history with the last CDR drive I owned was some 8 years ago.

Hey man, I have a solution that may be work. Try using a software like SiSoft Sandra V x.x, this program will evaluate and check your CD-R Burner in short time. Then the program will tell you the manufacturer of that CD-R burner. If it doesn't try with other program related.

Hope I can help

The absolute best way is to look at the decal/label found on most CD drives themselves physically. The 2nd best way is to review what the "device manager" reports for CD installed, however that may not always be true. Another way is to verify during boot-up what the boot status display is showing for IDE devices, obviously look for the CDs. If you have your bill when ordering the system it *may* provide similar info, but that's a long shot. Goto: www.belarc.com get the advisor pgm. load it and see what it reports. Hope this helps...
