I guess its because I don't use Internet Explorer which XP Antispyware 2009 depends on. Also I know that for the work machine that does have IE I just hit Alt+F4 if that popup shows up since clicking on the top right X can be ineffective.
So that's my solution. Read http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/08/22/anatomy_of_a_hack/print.html to read the evil genius of this exploit and how the user plays a role in installing this software.
Since the owner installs this one there is no known cure all except to disallow all software installs. That would not be a good thing.

I got hammered by antispywarexp 2009 and I'm still trying to clean it up. There are a number of AV sites that won't load. I would say that on a knowledge scale of 1 - 10, I'm about a 5. But, I do tech support for an online product, and i know the "average" user is completely unprepared and unaware of this growing threat.
I know a little about how an iframe is used to deliver a payload. I'm not that well versed on cross site scripting. But what I would like to know is or how much of this stuff is dependent on javascript or even java) being turned on?
Btw, I've ran Malwarebytes and my last pass didn't find anything, but running MS Onecare just found three files that it doesn't know what to do with. So, I'll be working on that. but, can someone point me to something that will explain how I can clean up whatever it is that is keeping security web sites from loading?
Thanks
