Question

How to create internal IP page ?

Feb 19, 2017 9:36PM PST

Hi there,

Right, i didn't really know how to name that one but, what I am trying to do is to create a shortcut on a windows desktop, so the owner of the laptop can double click on the shortcut which will open a intranet page where i want to display 2 icons. These two icons will be linked to independent IP addresses. Basically the application is that i am running BMS systems with two supervisory systems that have TCP/IP access but I don't want to create 2 shortcuts on the desktop which makes it messy, I want to create only one shortcut that when i open this page then i can click on one or the other icon which will then send me on the IP address of the supervisory system that i am working on ... Is that makes sense ?

Any help will be appreciated.

thanks.

on the desktop would make it look "easy"

Using a text editor, Word will do this, create a webpage that contains the links to each system.

Create a shortcut on the desktop to point to that webpage.

Double clicking the webpage shortcut will launch your browser from where you can choose the link you want.

Seems a lot of work just to avoid one more icon

Indeed, any editor (such a Notepad, MS Word is somewhat overdone) can make such a web page. But there's no need to real need to make a html-page as a container for 2 links.

A document in Word, a spreadsheet in Excel, a pdf-page in Adobe, or the Favorites/bookmarks in your browser all can contain clickable links. And a directory (folder) that opens in Explorer, can contain shortcuts, which can be clicked on. Or if you use Windows 10, you can make a second desktop with only those 2 links.

It's totally your choice what container you want to use.
