How to create a partition

Nov 18, 2003 8:51AM PST

I have recently purchased a new computer running Windows XP Home Edition. My system is now up and running with all my software installed and data transferred but I now have a need to create a partition on this drive in order to successfully run some backup software I have. Can this be done now or do I have to reformat the drive and start the process before anything is loaded on it? If I can do this now can anyone explain how I go about doing it? Thanks

Why not just get a second hdd for your backups?
Ghost works well this way.

How big is the HDD?

It is too late to do this using Windows XP's tools.
You'll have to start over and reinstall XP.
See this link:
How to use the Upgrade Version XP CD to Partition & Format a hard drive during Setup.

The only way to do this at this stage is to use Partition Magic 8.0 which will let you shrink the C Drive to create another partition for the D Drive.

But the asking price of Partition Magic @ $70.00 you can use that $ to buy a 60~80GB HDD?
